As Hurricane Dorian gains strength, IRS encourages preparation for natural disasters

WASHINGTON — As Dorian threatens and with the peak of hurricane season just ahead, the Internal Revenue Service reminds everyone to develop an emergency preparedness plan. Taxpayers, whether individuals, organizations or businesses, should take time now to create or update their emergency plans.

Taxpayers can begin getting ready for a disaster with a preparedness plan that includes securing and duplicating essential documents, creating lists of property and knowing where to find information once a disaster has occurred.

What if it was YOUR daughter?

Your 24 year old daughter calls you with the exciting news that she has completed her training and is ready to start her new career.   She worked hard to earn her diploma and is anticipating her first business trip.

Although she is eager to start her new job, she expresses her concern that her employer has asked her to share a room with a male co-worker.  You’re shocked that any business would expect men and women to share sleeping quarters, but she reassures you that the company has very strict policies on harassment and fraternization. 

Then, she tells you that her co-worker is actually her superior and he will be evaluating her performance and reporting back to the company.

You find the entire situation discomforting and you worry about your daughter’s safety.

Truckers should e-file highway use tax return by Sept. 3

IRS recently shared a release (Issue Number: IR-2019-138) covering the due date for reporting and paying the Federal Vehicle Use Tax form 2290. Yes, September 3rd is the due date this year (Tax Year 2019-20). the usual deadline is August 31 and it falls on a weekend, so the deadline is pushed to the next business day. WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today issued a reminder for owners of most heavy highway vehicles that the time to file Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return, began July 1, 2019.

The highway use tax applies to highway motor vehicles with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more. This generally includes large trucks, truck tractors and buses. The tax is based on the weight of the vehicle and a variety of special rules apply. These special rules are explained in the instructions to Form 2290.

Women In Trucking Association, A voice for gender diversity

Regan is a professional driver for YRCW.  When she started working for the carrier, she identified as a male but has since transitioned into a female.  She is one of the members of the gender diversity task force recently formed by the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) to understand the needs of the LGBTQ community better.

We realize there is a growing number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer professional drivers and other transportation workers.  As the voice of gender diversity, we want to ensure we are inclusive and to create an awareness within the trucking industry.
