Any company that engages in commercial “for hire” transportation for passengers or goods in interstate commerce should own proper operating authority. However, this authority is regulated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) which accepts applications given by companies wish to provide their service in interstate commerce. FMSCA issue an authority in the form of an “MC,” “MX” or “FF” number, which indicates the type of operations the vehicle will be involved in, the cargo it will carry or persons, where the company is located and services it can provide.
